A Chicago man is accused of smothering his 5-month-old daughter to stop her crying, leaving her brain dead and on life support.

Investigators say Rigoberto Rodriguez, 29, put his hand over the baby’s mouth three different times, long enough to leave the child brain dead.

Police believe Angela Petrov, the mother of the child, looked on as Rodriguez smothered the baby.

Rodriguez and Petrov were reportedly drinking at the time.

Both are charged with aggravated battery and are being held in lieu of $5 million bond.
