Today was the last day Caribou Coffee shops across the Chicago area were open for business.
The Viennese company that owns Caribou is closing 80 under-performing stores in Chicago and elsewhere.
The company’s other 88 locations will be converted to “Peet’s Coffee and Tea” shops over the next 12 to 18 months.
The company chairman says Caribou plans to focus its business in Minnesota, where the coffee chain is doing well.
