Heavy rains bypass Chicago, for now

Chicagoland appears to have a reprieve from the rain, for now.

A few widely scattered showers or thunderstorms will be possible Tuesday evening across the Chicago area, although coverage will be limited to less than 20 percent. After midnight, rain chances increase significantly again as a cluster of thunderstorms that develops in Iowa is expected to ride eastward into northern Illinois.

rainEarlier Tuesday, waves of showers and a lightning prolific thunderstorms roamed across northwest Illinois and southern Wisconsin, clipping Chicago’s northern suburbs at times.

Rainfall totals have been impressive with 2.66″ in Dubuque, Iowa and 2.25″ in Burlington, Wisconsin.  In Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, three separate hail producing thunderstorms occurred today along with 1.37″
