The battle continues to keep Midway Airport’s control tower operating around the clock.

The FAA plans to shut down Midway’s tower at night due to the sequester budget cuts.

Congressman Dan Lipinksi strongly opposes the decision in a letter to the FAA chief.  He demands to know how the nation’s 25th busiest airport got on the list.

149 towers at mostly small airports were supposed to close at night starting Sunday.

The FAA has postponed the closures until June 15th.

Its a shame that the people we elected would even think about something like this If they can,t get what they want they put the public in danger

How is the public in danger? They don’t fly at night out of midway. Emergency landings can be handled at Ohare. How is the government expected to get expenses in line with income, if they can’t make any changes to any plan or program?

The Democratic controlled Senate needs to get off their Collective A$$ and pass a budget, or we need to start cleaning house next election. They are in violation of the constitution for allowing the national debt to be run up 7 trillion dollars with no budget in place for over 5 years.

Late flights don't need to divert or declare an emergency. All pilots are trained to fly into uncontrolled airports. Thousands of general aviation pilots land at uncontrolled fields, it's as simple as looking for traffic and communicating with other traffic over the radio. The tower is just there to separate traffic…which Midway at night doesn't have a problem with.
