A 14-year-old boy was shot and killed Sunday afternoon on the city’s West Side.

The shooting took place just before 4:30 p.m.

Police say the boy was shot in the chest in the 2200 block of South Leavitt Street.

Officers who responded to the scene radioed out a description of a vehicle that may have been involved.

Other officers stopped a car with that description and took three people into custody.

Police say they found a weapon and that the three people in the car all have gang ties.

Yup, no way me & my family come to Chicago & spend money visiting. As tourism comes to a screeching halt may'be your fine Mayor will finally WAKE UP and do something for the good people of Chicago

I went to school with this kid. He was a bright kid, always smiling and laughing. He definitely did NOT deserve to go out like this. All of this gang violence is getting way out of hand. We seriously need to do something about this. Too many innocent lives are being taken away. Things seriously need to change here in Chicago.

The people have to start the changing of the neighborhoods. Police are primarily a reactionary force after crime has already happened. It's the people that have to force change

How do you come home with those kind of tattoos on your face? To many parents with the "not my kid" mentality is the reason why these kids are out of hand.

Michael was a good friend of my 12 year old son D'Angelo. He was a good kid, a funny kid that was full of life, a kid that loved sports, that comes from a good home. Yet it's so sick to see an individual just take a 14 yr olds life away like nothing. Michael you will be missed.
