Breast cancer patients may develop PTSD symptoms

Researchers interviewed more than 1,100 women newly diagnosed with breast cancer and followed the patients for six months after diagnosis.

Findings revealed that 23 percent of the women reported symptoms of PTSD.

Younger women were more likely to develop PTSD symptoms and black and Asian women were more likely to experience psychological trauma than white women.

The study appears in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.
