Charges filed against state for securities fraud

The feds are now taking on Illinois’ pension problem.
Investigators at the Securities and Exchange Commission have filed charges against the state for securities fraud.
They claim Illinois officials misled bond investors by not informing them that pension obligations were significantly underfunded.
It’s only the second time a state has been charged with violating securities laws related to public pension disclosures.
