One man is dead and many questions remain after a collision took place early Saturday morning on Interstate 57.

At about 1:00 am in Chicago’s Washington Heights neighborhood, police say a black SUV rammed silver Dodge Stratus down an embankment.  The dodge rolled down onto I-57, killing 31-year-old Corey Owens.  It isn’t clear if he was the driver or passenger of the car.

Fatal I-57 Crash 2

Early Saturday morning, police guarded a hole in the chain link fence where the SUV was found– still running.  Police say the driver of the SUV fled the scene and hasn’t been found.

Relatives of the victim say they received an anonymous call saying he had been killed.  They arrived at the scene along with police.

Larhonda Young, Owen’s sister, said “It was real awful to see my brother just lying in the street, waiting to be picked up by someone.”

Owens is survived by his parents, eight siblings and a 9-year-old daughter.  Family members say the dodge didn’t belong to Owens, and they aren’t sure what he was doing or who he was with at the time of the crash.

Owen’s aunt, Trina Owens, wants closure and said “This is some time of accident,” and she just wants the truth.

Fatal I-57 crash police reportEarly Saturday evening, police news affairs said they could not confirm if the two vehicles involved were stolen.  But Sade Tillman contacted WGN News after she saw her car on TV.

She says it was her Dodge Stratus that was stolen Friday night while she was at a party.  She has the police report to prove it.

“The police were looking for me, they went to my house.” They found your car far south, and you saw the car on the news? “Yes, it’s the same car,” Tillman said.

Police do not have anyone in custody and the incident is under investigation.

If he was a thug shouldn't be an issue, the fact is another human being lost his life!! Wheres your compassion? I thought your name was Bob..not 'God', for He is the only one that knows our character. Don't be so quick to judge!!

      • bobhamiltonchicago

Both cars were stolen. The guy killed did not have a license. You’re right about me being more compassionate. I should be. His family loved him and needed him. But ultimately we are all responsible for our actions. He was up to something wrong and paid the price. The guy who killed him will be dead soon too. Most likely. If you live in the ghetto, you have to go WAY out of your way to do the right thing. Even then, of course there are no guarantees.

      • Trina

How do you know if the guy had a license, did you know him? And how do you know it was a guy that killed? If you share opinion speaks facts. and that a lie to that if you live in the ghetto one must go out of his way to do right.

Hey where were you on the post about the young man killing his mom? Or is it ONLY Black crime u comment on?

    • Trina Owens

To all the people that have negative comments, I should hope that your children stay safe, because the fact is that you are talking about someone dead child, and to make the comment another Obama situation is cruel too, what is bad when a sick ass white-man goes into a grade school at kill babies that what I call a thug. Loving Auntie.

You goofy as fucker my brother was not a damn thug he was a hard working man with a job taking care of his family so stop stereo typing you ass.

I checked other news reports. He was a thug. Not the thuggiest thug, but enough to get him killed in the ghetto. Young black males are safer in the Marine Corps in a combat zone than in the hood. Believe me, I would finish the guy who pushed him in less than 2 seconds, hopefully his family will. Then I will say; thug got what he deserved.

Here is a perspective — If someone has stolen my crummy old beat-up car (that I had to work Y E A R S to get) — I would want the Thief (AND his entire family) INCINERATED ALIVE (like the cab in Las Vegas).

    btw: F U 2

I saw on TV where the denial has already started, another Honor Student, riding in a stolen vehicle, looks like an Obama script to me.
