British researchers report that internet addiction is associated with longstanding depression, impulsive non-conformity, Autism traits, and even drug-like withdrawal symptoms.

The researchers were surprised at the withdrawal effect. They were expecting people who use the internet a lot would display enhanced moods.

The main message, they say, is that some people may have disruptions in their lives from excessive internet use, and it can affect both their psychological and physical health.
