Dave Bolland was spotted Wednesday munching on cereal outside the Chicago Blackhawks locker room. Significantly, he was not spotted on the ice before that, nor will he be the next time the club attempts to extend its record points streak.

Bolland didn’t practice again and won’t play against the St. Louis Blues on Thursday night, Hawks coach Joel Quenneville said. The center is “progressing” with an upper body injury but not yet enough.

“He’s improving every day,” Quenneville said.

Defenseman Steve Montador also practiced with the team has he battles to return from a concussion, but he has not been added to the roster and was not available for comment. Quenneville said the veteran blue-liner was “getting better.”

As for where Montador would fit it, if at all, upon his return?

“We like decisions like that where we have some depth,” Quenneville said. “We feel the organization this year is as deep as we’ve been. He gives us another option on the back end, but we’ve been very pleased where our defense has been to date. We’ll see.”

Corey Crawford will get the start in goal against the Blues.
