New University of Chicago Medical Center opens

It’s moving day for the University of Chicago Medical Center.

After five years of planning, patients are finally being transferred to the new building a block away hospital

The new Center for Care and Discovery covers 1.2 million square feet, and has 240 single-occupancy inpatient rooms.

It cost $700 million dollars to build, and is estimated to be among the largest investments ever made on Chicago’s south side.
