The City of Chicago will take one small step to try to reduce the sales of assault weapons.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel plans to attend a gun violence forum at the University of Chicago Tuesday.

The mayor says he is directing the city’s financial officials to examine all of the  investments by the city’s four big pension funds; money will be withdrawn from any investment in a company that makes or sells high-powered rifles.

Chicago’s city comptroller admits there may not be a lot of dollars involved; instead he says Emanuel hopes to inspire other local governments across the country to pull their money out of gun companies.

But there will be no shortage of private investors because gun sales are skyrocketing in response to the political push for gun control; many local gun shops are all but sold out because of a crush of new buyers.

Nobody is trying to take away the rights of the 2nd Amendment in the literal sense.

But in the world of mentally unstable, lawmakers should find a way to make our society a safer place. If restrictions placed on guns are what it takes, or stricter background checks, we should open the floor to debate.

With that said, the U.S. has averaged more than 18 gun deaths every day since the Newtown School shooting. Some thing should be done.

“When governments fear the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.” – Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826), US Founding Father, drafted the Declaration of Independence, 3rd US President
“This year will go down in history. For the first time, a civilized nation has full gun registration. Our streets will be safer, our police more efficient, and the world will follow our lead into the future!” – Adolph Hitler, 1935, on The Weapons Act of Nazi Germany

Rahm is just pretending to do something about the rise in violence. At first him and McCarthy "had a plan" to curb violence. Joke. Now lets put a ban on assault rifles even though its estimated that assault rifles are used in 1 to 7 petcent of all homicides. Let me tell you something. If you're a gang banger and have an assault rifle I'd bet it's illegal for you to own any type of gun. I believe all Americans should be able to protect themselves but no one needs 30 to 40 guns.

Let Rahm divest from the gun companies. I'll be glad to step in and buy up as many shares of Bushmaster as I can! They've gotta be making money hand over fist with gun salesman of the year Obama putting them in the limelight, and I'm sure that their stock will only go up.
