Freezing rain and extremely icy roads caused an 11 car crash in Schaumburg Saturday night, according to Illinois State Police.

The accident occurred at about 11:06 p.m. on the Elgin-O’Hare Expressway near Gary Avenue, according to Illinois Police Master Sgt. Bart Lamb.

“There was a short time where all of the sudden it turned into freezing rain and it was instant ice,” said Lamb.

There were two minor injuries reported, but nobody needed to go to the hospital, according to Lamb.

“Spotty freezing drizzle” is expected through Sunday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Yellow line service was briefly been suspended due to ice on the rails, according to CTA media relations.
