A good Samaritan rescued a fisherman who fell through the ice in Far North suburban Lindenhurst.

Pam Nickell says she heard the man calling for help as she sat inside her home on Lake Linden.  So she jumped into action and called 911.

Nickell tried to rescue the unidentified man by using a rope ladder, but she says the ice below her cracked and she fell into the water.  Emergency crews and a dive team responded minutes later.

The fisherman was rescued and taken to a local hospital. He is expected to be okay.

Nickell says she was fine and denied medical treatment.   She says the water was about four feet deep and about 32 degrees.

Emergency responders say the man is lucky Nickell responded so quickly or he could have slipped under the ice.
