Parents attended a meeting at Marsh Elementary School today after a student was arrested for bringing an unloaded gun and ammunition to school.

One parent leaving the meeting called it a “hot mess.” Each parent was given just two minutes to speak.

Many parents were upset that they were not immediately told about the arrest Wednesday of a 13-year-old student.

Police say a .22 revolver and 33 bullets were discovered inside the locker of the student on Wednesday. A three-inch pocket knife was also in the student’s pocket.

The gun may belong to a relative of the child.

The teen appeared in Juvenile Court and was charged with unlawful use of a weapon.

Chicago Public Schools sent a letter home to parents saying: “We are working together with these departments in reviewing and modifying our security plan to maximize our existing resources and in identifying any needs to ensure a safe educational environment for our students.”

Marsh Elementary School does have metal detectors but the devices are primarily used for parents and visitors to pass through. That policy is now under review.

The teenager has since been released to the custody of his mother.

The 13-year-old boy goes to court next month.

Hey, maybe this kid decided to finally take matters into his own hands, and brought the gun to school so he would feel safe from any lunatic who would come into a school to do harm to him or his classmates. God knows Rahm and McCarthy are unable to do anything about protecting the kids.

You know what…let the parents who take the kids to school carry concealed firearms after undergoing some training. No one would protect a child more than the parents themselves. You got a problem with that Rahm?!? You're not going to place a cop with each and every child. This way you could keep the beat officers out in the nieghborhood to patrol where they are dealing drugs, breaking into cars, and causing mayhem in general.

it all boils down to better parenting……..and heck, 90% of the time, the gun that is brought to school BELONGS to one of the parents!!

How in the world did he get a rifle into the school and have it fit in his locker without anybody seeing it???!! Because we ALL KNOW that HANDGUNS are ILLEGAL in the city!!!!!!!!!
