Sleeping child safe after shots fired through home

Shots were fired through a window at an Evanston home early Sunday morning.

Evanston police responded to a report of shots fired just after 1:00 a.m. at a home in the 2000 block of Dodge.

When police arrived, numerous people were inside of the residence, including a 5-year-old and a 10-year-old, according to a press release issued by Evanston Police Department.

No one was injured in the shooting, however during their investigation, police discovered that several shots had gone through a wall and struck a mattress that one of the children was sleeping on, according to the release.

Police have added extra patrols in the area as a result of a two homicides in recent months.  Police stated that the violence appears to be a result of a gang related feud in the area.

The Evanston Police Department asks that anyone with information regarding this incident to call the police department at (847) 866-5000 or utilize Text-A-Tip anonymously by texting the keyword EPDTIP to 274637 (CRIMES) with text information.
