Teachers strike in north west suburbs

Teachers in northwest suburban District 300 will walk off the job Tuesday. Schools in that district, which include Algonquin and Carpentersville, will be closed. Negotiations went down to the wire Monday. The teachers union did not accept the latest contract offer.

The main sticking points remain compensation and classroom size. A teachers strike will leave nearly 21,000 students out of school in 15 northwest Chicago communities.
