The 14th annual “WGN-TV Back-to-School Kids Fair” will be held Friday, August 7th, 6-9am at the WGN-TV Studios, located at 2501 W. Bradley Place in Chicago.  The WGN Morning News crew will broadcast live from the event.  The free fair will feature food, fun, health screenings, safety tips and everything parents need to get kids ready for school.  Text FAIR to 97999 to get a Kids Fair reminder sent to your phone. Public transportation is recommended; parking is severely limited. This year, the Kids Fair is sponsored by Jewel-Osco, as well as Juicy Juice, Smucker’s and P&G.

WGN Morning News will have a special “Kids Fair Contest” – watch WGN Morning News or swing by the WGN Info Booth for the “Kids Fair Word of the Day” for your chance at six tickets to Six Flags Great America and six tickets to Marvel Universe Live! by Feld.

There will be plenty of entertainment including performances from The Jesse White Tumbling Team, the South Shore Drill Team, Chicago Park District’s tumbling team, and more.  Fun activities include face painting, mascots, a fashion show and inflatable bouncers.  Kids will also be able to learn new things about the animal kingdom at the Brookfield Zoo and Shedd Aquarium booths My Gym Children’s Fitness Center will lead kids in fun-filled fitness activities.  Your child can exercise at the Kids Fair by doing Zumba!  The Storybus will be available for some reading and story time as well as the Windy City Game Theater with a 28-foot long video game trailer.

There will be musical performances from “Fancy Nancy” as well as from the band “i.M Possible.”  A magician will be in attendance and performing for the children.  Fibre-Craft will be handing out creative activities to children in attendance while DJ A-Z Entertainment, Santa’s Village Azoosment Park, and balloon artist Smarty Pants will all be present to keep children entertained throughout the morning.  The will be on hand doing the “Footbag Challenge,” which teaches the basic kicks and challenges kids to get five in a row.

In honor of National Bowling Day, which is August 8th, WGN will have a carpeted bowling lane and/or an electronic video game bowling experience.

Quill, Lakeshore Learning, Illinicare Health, Nyhan, Bambrick, Kinzie, & Lowry Law Firm will all be generously donating school supplies to Chicago area kids.  Other supplies will be available at the WGN-TV booth’s ‘Wheel of Fun,’ compliments of Cook Brothers.  ‘Wheel of Fun’ sponsors includePepsiAnn SatherCulver’s, SkinnyPop Popcorn,  Navy Pier IMAX Theatre, and items from the Chicago White Sox, Bulls, Cubsand BlackhawksBuddig will also be handing out samples of their meat products. Fairgoers can take photos with team mascots from the Chicago Bulls (Benny the Bull) Chicago Blackhawks (Tommy Hawk), Chicago Fire (Sparky), Chicago Cubs (Clark), Chicago Bears (Staley), Chicago Wolves (Skates),  Chicago Red Stars (Supernova), and the Kane County Cougars (Ozzie).

The Chicago Department of Public Health will provide immunizations to all visitors.  In addition, Advance Vision Center will provide free vision screenings and the Colgate Bright Smiles, Bright Futures Van will provide free dental checks. Nit Free Noggins Lice Treatment Center will also be on hand doing lice checks.  PLS Financial is going to be passing out hand sanitizer as well as boxes of tissues.

As for safety tips, attendees can check out the Illinois Secretary of State child safety seat checkpoint booth, which will answer questions about child seat safety.   The American Red Cross of Greater Chicago will provide first aid lessons and interactive games.   SportClips will generously provide free haircuts to students. Abt Electronics will be on hand with the latest in back-to-school gadgetry.

In addition, attendees can visit the Dunkin’ Donuts sampling van and Pepsi booth for free refreshments. Connie’s Pizza will join the fair once again, serving “Breakfast Pizza.”  Other food sponsors include: Eli’s Cheesecake Company giving out free food and Tamales in Highland Park will be giving away free tamales.  StarfruitGoGo SqueezJonnyPops, Pretzel Crisps, and Costco will also provide food and drinks for our guests.
