      The 13th annual “WGN-TV Back-to-School Kids Fair” will be held Friday, August 8th, 6-9am at the WGN-TV Studios, located at 2501 W. Bradley Place in Chicago.  The WGN Morning News crew will broadcast live from the event.  The free fair will feature food, fun, health screenings, safety tips and everything parents need to get kids ready for school.  Text FAIR to 97999 to get a Kids Fair reminder sent to your phone. Public transportation is recommended; parking is severely limited. This year, the Kids Fair is sponsored by Jewel-Osco, as well as Kraft, Smucker’s and P&G. Starting July 30th, the ‘Shop & Drop’ event will take place at local Jewel-Osco stores for viewers to purchase and donate school supplies, such as pens and notebooks, to Chicago kids in-need in preparation for our back to school fair.

There will be plenty of entertainment including a performance from The Jesse White Tumbling Team, South Shore Drill Team, and Cirque Shanghai: Warriors now playing at Navy Pier.  Fun activities include face painting, mascots, a fashion show and inflatable bouncers.  Kids will also be able to learn new things about the animal kingdom at the Brookfield Zoo and Shedd Aquarium booths.  My Gym Children’s Fitness Center will lead kids in fun-filled fitness activities. The Storybus will be available for some reading and story time as well as the Windy City Game Theater with a 28-foot long video game trailer.

      Quill is generously donating school supplies to Chicago area kids.  Other supplies will be available at the WGN-TV booth’s ‘Wheel of Fun,’ compliments of Cook Brothers. ‘Wheel of Fun’ sponsors include, Pepsi, Ann Sather , Culver’s, Skinny Pop Popcorn,  IMAX at Navy Pier, Antenna TV and items from the Chicago Cubs, White Sox, and Blackhawks. Buddig meats will also be handing out t-shirts and coupons. The official t-shirt vendor is ArtFlo.

        Fair-goers can take photos with team mascots from the Chicago Cubs (Clark), White Sox ( Southpaw), Chicago Wolves (Skates) and the Chicago Sky (Sky Guy).

      The Chicago Department of Health will provide immunizations to all visitors.  In addition, Advance Vision Center will provide free vision screenings and the Colgate Bright Smiles Bright Futures Van  will provide free dental checks.

As for safety tips, attendees can check out the Illinois Secretary of State child seat checkpoint booth, which will answer questions about child seat safety.   The American Red Cross of Greater Chicago will provide first aid lessons and interactive games.  Hair Cuttery will generously provide free haircuts to students. Abt Electronics will be on hand with the latest in back-to-school gadgetry.

In addition, attendees can visit the Dunkin’ Donuts and Pepsi booths for free refreshments.  Skinny Pop PopcornStarfruitGoGo SqueezPretzel CrispsMoo & Oink and Costco  will also provide food and drinks for our guests.
