Weather Internship

Department: News

Responsibilities: This internship is designed for students interested in pursuing a career in meteorology. The position requires either a major or minor in meteorology or atmospheric science. Duties include: climate research, operating the database, gathering important information and editing text for the show and or Tribune Weather Page, and answering the phone. Usually work two days per week

Internship Eligibility

•Must be 18 or older and a registered student in good standing at an accredited college or university.

•Must be able to work the hours required by department.

•Students can receive university or college credit for participating in this program but need to handle paperwork involved.

Sports Internship

Department: News

Responsibilities: Assist the sports producer and anchor with the evening sportscasts by “logging” games that we use for highlights. Use the Associated Press computer wires to help provide pertinent information on breaking sports stories and/or other information. Learn to identify proper highlights, video, sound bites, etc… to use in our shows. Learn to edit on the newest newsroom digital technology available…a Sony Newsbase Clip Edit system that allows us to edit straight from our desk computers. And, occasionally interns go out in the field to help with interviews. Mostly, this internship allows students to get an opportunity to get “hands on” experience in a television newsroom.

Responsibilities: Range from answering phones and checking faxes to field producing. The intern will work closely with the Assignment Editors to help determine stories to cover for the newscast, making contacts for those stories and setting up interviews. Also, interns may be asked to help cover press conferences or may be assigned to accompany reporters and/or news photographers on assignment. With the wide variety of duties, the internship will provide a full overview of newsroom operations all the way from the news meeting to the newscast. Mature and professional conduct expected.

Responsibilities: Responsible for assisting the IS Department with helpdesk activity, workstation configuration, software installations and system documentation. The intern will learn the overall operation of the Information Systems Department. He/She will assist the IS Manager and IS technical staff in diagnosing and solving problems and installing new systems and software. The individual will be working directly with employees to help resolve problems and must have good people skills.

Requirements: Undergraduate (junior/senior standing) or graduates attending an accredited University. Requires courses in networking, Microsoft Server and Operating Systems, and Office Suite. Programming skills are a plus.
