Acts as Traffic Coordinator for CLTV/ANTENNA/THIS TV and is responsible for scheduling all elements of the station’s official log from sign on to sign off.  This includes program timings, advertiser separation and commercial copy.  Commercial copy includes scheduling appropriate agency ISCI codes, giving clients the proper rotation as well as sharing information with other in house channels. Must also maintain materials in house for each channel.

Requires a high-school diploma (college degree preferred)  or equivalent related experience and 1 to 2 years of experience in TV, radio or with an agency traffic department.  Knowledge of Microsoft Office is required.  Previous Wide Orbit experience is a plus.  Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask in a busy environment are required.

Staff Accountant

WGN-TV’s finance department is seeking an entry level Staff Accountant.  This individual will be responsible for assisting the Senior Finance Manager, Manager of Financial Reporting and the Accounting Manager with financial reporting, capital, accounts payable and other miscellaneous finance functions.

Qualified candidate should have an undergraduate degree in accounting, finance or related experience. Candidate must be a self starter, possess strong communication skills and have the ability to remain organized and detail oriented while multi-tasking.  Must be proficient with accounting principles, Microsoft Office applications, general ledger and accounts payable systems.  PeopleSoft experience is preferred.

WGN-TV’s Desk Assistant is responsible for assisting assignment editor in tracking news stories of the day and breaking news, also responsible for posting stories, video and breaking news on WGNtv.com. Ability to track breaking news, research stories, monitor scanners and tip phone calls. Write and post breaking stories to the website and maintain all social media accounts when news breaks.

Requires an undergraduate degree in communications, journalism or related field; possess strong knowledge of the city and the suburbs; newsroom experience preferred; good interpersonal skills and have the ability to handle busy, fast paced environment, fielding many phone calls and requests from reporters, crews, producers and writers; must have up-to-date knowledge of various forms of social media. Computer research skills also preferred.

News Writer

Dept:  News

The Writer is responsible for all aspects of writing for WGN News Broadcasts.  This responsibility includes: writing stories and teases; writing for on-air and on-line; working with reporters and photographers in the field; desk-top video editing; reviewing feed tapes; posting text and video to the internet; and gathering information on late stories.  In addition to writing to the video and graphics available, the Writer will contribute creative ideas for broadcasts and websites.

Applicants must have at least 3 years experience as a writer or producer of television news broadcasts.  They must have a college degree in Journalism or Mass Communications, or significant related experience.  Applicants must demonstrate a facility with language and a writing style that is designed to be off-the-cuff and fun, yet authoritative and credible.  Strong writing, video, news judgment, and internet skills are essential.  Applicants must possess the ability to work well under pressure, work well with others, and be available to work flexible hours including extremely early mornings and weekends.

Requires some college courses in communications and/or video production.  A degree in a related Mass Communications field and video editing experience is a plus. One to two years experience in a similar television work environment and prior experience with analog and digital VTRs, and disk based playback devices needed. Experience with current generation broadcast media ingest systems is a plus, but not required. Demonstrated computer skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft operating systems and Microsoft Office programs is required. Prior experience with digital file transfer protocols is desired.

Must be able to work flexible hours and possibly weekends and holidays. Attention to detail, good organizational and time management skills, the ability to meet deadlines, and be punctual are required.

WGN-TV / CLTV / WGNA / Antenna TV / This TV is looking for a VP of Technology to manage all technical operations and engineering staff at our Chicago, Illinois based operations center.

This leadership position reports directly to the station VP/GM.  The successful candidate will have experience managing, planning, developing and budgeting multiple concurrent priorities.  Hiring and retaining the right personnel, combined with the knowledge of current IP based systems, is critical to success in this position.

Requires the desire and drive to stay competent in the latest trends in broadcast television and related Internet/web systems and the ability to address issues 24/7.

The successful candidate will have functional technical capabilities that include:

  • Knowledge of non-linear editing systems, broadcast station automation, graphics generation and rendering systems (and their related storage technologies).
  • Experience with data structures common in programming languages such as PHP or C++.
  • Mastery of IP network concepts and layouts such as:
    • the ability to select the appropriate subnet mask for an IP network given the number of hosts and network use description.
    • an understanding of the difference between a NAT and a PAT as well as between an IP address and IP port.
    • the use of a packet sniffer to assist system debugging.
    • common public/private address ranges.
