Chicago police are searching for four people, and questioning three others, as they investigate an act of road rage that triggered gun fire and a two-vehicle crash in Jefferson Park.

Police say a white Cadillac Escalade pulled up to a home at Montrose and Lavergne Avenue around 5 a.m. They claim a black Mercedes SUV then came up behind the Escalade, and someone inside the Mercedes opened fire. A 37 year-old man in the Escalade was wounded in the back. The Mercedes then sped-off, and the Escalade raced after it.

The Mercedes ran a red light at Nagle Avenue and plowed into a Toyota van. The four people inside the Mercedes, three men and a woman, ran off. Two guns were recovered from the vehicle. The Escalade stopped at a CVS store and asked someone there to call 911. While there, the driver saw an ambulance heading to the accident scene and followed it.

The gunshot victim is in serious condition at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. The driver of the Toyota van was taken to Resurrection Medical Center.

Police are questioning the three people in the Escalade.

They are also checking surveillance footage from a camera at Foster and Nagle.
