The 15-year old girl shot with her mother in Romeoville Thursday died Saturday.

Brianna Valle and her 33-year-old mother were shot getting into a car outside their home.

Police say the gunman was the girl’s former boyfriend Erick Maya.

The Cicero native was charged with attempted murder and unlawful use of a weapon

Court documents reveal Maya has a history of criminal behavior and that he previously threatened to kidnap and rape the girl.

Romeoville shooting suspect mayaBail was set at $5 million dollars Saturday, for a 23-year-old Cicero man charged in connection with a shooting that left a 15-year-old teen brain-dead.

Erick Maya is accused of trying to kill his ex-girlfriend and her mother. He was charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm and one count of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, said Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow.

Police say they still are not sure why, but say this could be a have been motivated by jealousy or heartbreak.

The 15-year old girl and her 33-year old mother where sitting in a car in their driveway of their home on the 300 block of Emery in Romeoville. They were on their way to Romeoville High where the teen is a freshman. Police say the Cicero man fired three shots at the passenger side window. The teen was shot in the head twice, the mother in the neck.

Police say Maya escaped on foot and was caught shortly after the shooting along with three other persons of interest, but police say the others did not have a connection to the crime.

Next door neighbor Shellie jones called 911 before going out to help the wounded mother and daughter. She says a husband and younger son also live at the house, that the family moved into a few months ago.

Police are not sure how long the teen and Maya were dating or when they broke up.

Maya is scheduled to make a court appearance on Thursday, officials said.

Police in Romeoville have confirmed they are holding one suspect in the shooting of a woman and her daughter.

The 33-year-old mother and 15-year-old daughter were attacked Thursday morning while sitting in their car outside their home on Emery Avenue.

They were just leaving for school.

The teen was shot in the head. Her mother was hit in the neck.

Police say they are in serious condition at area hospitals.

Four people were arrested for questioning.  Three have since been released.

A 33-year old mother and her 15-year old daughter both shot while sitting in a car outside their home in the 300 block of Emery Ave at around 7 a.m.  The mother was about to drop the teen off at school.

The mother was shot in the neck.  The daughter was shot in the head. Police say 2 to 3 shots were fired at the passenger side window.

Police responded setting up a perimeter around the house to search for the shooter.

Local schools were also put on a “soft lockdown” as a precaution.

Four persons of interest found in the neighborhood were taken into custody. Two were later released. Police says they are still speaking with a 23-year-old man and another man in his late teens or early twenties about the crime.

Neighbors told WGN-TV the mother and daughter were backing out of their driveway in the 300 block of Emory Ave. around 7 a.m. when they were shot.

The shooting happened about two blocks from Irene King Elementary School.

Officials put the school on lockdown.

The lockdown was lifted at 9:30, even as the search continued.

There are reports that a suspect is in custody, but police have not confirmed it.

The conditions of the victims have not been released.
