Bond has been set at $5 million for a Joliet man charged with the murder of his mother.

Police say McCullum confessed to choking his mother unconscious after the two argued Wednesday night.

He then stabbed her to death and dumped her body in the Des Plaines River.

Police have not yet recovered the body of 54 year-old Jeannie Parker.

McCullum lived with his mother.

A Joliet man has been charged with killing his mother and dumping her body in  the Des Plaines River.

Police confirm that 21-year-old Charles McCullum has been charged with first degree murder after confessing to stabbing his 54-year-old mother Jeanie Parker to death.

Joliet police were conducting a well being check this morning in the 100 block of 5th Ave after a neighbor called to say they had not heard from Parker.

At the scene, police found a “significant quantity of blood” inside the home and a blood trail from the home to the garage, leading up to where a car had been parked.

Police issued an alert for the car.

An officer spotted McCullum driving the car and pulled it over around 10 a.m. on Houbolt Rd in Joliet. The office noticed blood in the car and on the McCullum’s clothing.  McCullum was taken to the police station where he confessed to stabbing his mother multiple times and disposing her body in the Des Plaines River.

Police located a murder weapon inside the home. McCullum lived in the home with his mother.

Authorities have been searching the river between Jefferson and McDonough St in Joliet all day.

McCullum may appear in bond court tomorrow.

A “person of interest” is being interviewed in connection with a missing Joliet woman who police believe may be the victim of foul play, Joliet police said.

Joleit police say a call came in this morning for a well being check on the 54-year-old woman in the 100 block of 5th Ave.

Officers arrived at the scene and found evidence of foul play.  They identified and located a person of interest.

Police would not comment on names, relationship or motives.

Meanwhile, sources say Joliet police are searching the Des Plaines River in connection to this missing person’s case.
