Traffic is moving again on Lake Shore Drive, after a deadly crash caused major gridlock on the North Side during morning rush-hour.
Two men died and two other people were critically injured in the three-vehicle crash in the Southbound lanes near Diversey about 4 a.m. Friday, police said.
The crash closed Southbound Lake Shore Drive and traffic was diverted at the Belmont Avenue exit for more than five hours. The lanes were reopened by about 9 a.m., police said.
The wreck involved two SUVs and a Toyota car. Two men in their 20s in the same SUV were killed in the crash, police said.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash, but a witness told WGN one of the vehicles was speeding the wrong way north on Lake Shore Drive before accident.
Two people were taken in serious-to-critical condition and one was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center and the other person was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, according to Chicago Fire Department officials.
