Rich_KingVeteran Chicago sports anchor, Rich King joined the WGN-TV News department as a sports reporter and news anchor in August 1991.

Rich began his broadcast career with WGN-TV and Radio in 1969 as a writer and producer, covering news and sports. In 1970, Rich joined WBBM Newsradio 78 Chicago as a writer and producer; he later became assistant news director and managing editor in 1972. In 1974, Rich began doing sportscasts in addition to his other responsibilities, which included color and play-by-play for the White Sox in 1980 and 1981. He was later promoted to Sports Director at WBBM in January 1985 and served in that position until 1987, when he joined WBBM-TV.

Rich has often been recognized for his achievement in sportscasting. In 1991, he was named Illinois “Sportscaster of the Year.” He also has won AP and UPI awards for his sportscasting. Rich was awarded an Emmy for his coverage of the Chicago Bulls in 1996.

Rich serves on the Board of Directors for the Chicago Lighthouse for the Blind and on the communications committee of the American Cancer Society. Rich also has authored a touching tribute to his late wife. The book is entitled My Maggie; it was published in October of 2007.

Born and raised on the South Side of Chicago, Rich attended De La Salle High School and received a degree from the University of Illinois-Chicago.
