    Former President George W. Bush is now a grandfather. His daughter, Jenna Bush Hager had a baby girl at a New York hospital Saturday night. The baby, Margaret Laura Hager, is named after both her grandmothers. Both mother and baby are doing well. The former first couple released a statement saying they’re “elated.”

  • Man, 22, killed after falling from apartment

    A 22-year-old man fell to his death on the Northwest Side, Monday morning. Police say alcohol may have been a factor when James Ruff of the 5000 block of North St. Louis Avenue fell from an apartment building. It happened in the 3400 block of North Pulaski in the South Old Irving Park neighborhood. Police say he died on the scene.

  • Bond Set for Orland Park Firefighter in Fatal Crash

    An Orland Park firefighter is held on $250,000 bond after being charged with reckless homicide in a fatal crash last week. Police say 45-year old Patrick Bruce drove his S-U-V into two other vehicles last Friday near Tinley Park. Twenty-five-year old Anasis Knox of Downers Grove died from injuries in the crash.  Two other people were taken to the hospital. Bruce has been on leave from the department the past eight months following an injury.

  • Wisconsin factory fire puts 300 out of work

    Three hundred people are out of work after a massive 8-alarm factory fire in Burlington, Wisconsin. The Echo Lake Farms Produce Company  “is one of the largest employers of the city,” said Mayor Bob Miller. The manufacturing plant went up in flames around 6 p.m. Wednesday night. Firefighters from 88 departments in Wisconsin and Northern Illinois battled the blaze. They had it under control by noon Thursday and were mopping up hot spots. “I have not seen a fire with […]

  • Donors Make Inaugural Dream Come True for South Shore Drill Team

    Thanks to an outpouring of donations, the South Shore Drill Team will get to strut its stuff in President Obama’s Inaugural Parade on Monday.  The team has met its fundraising goal of $40,000 to send 50 members of the 300-member precision team to Washington for the historic event.  The money came through shortly after WGN-TV aired a report indicating the group still needed $4,000 to make the trip.     Donors are helping the South Shore Drill Team march at President Obama’s Inauguration next Monday. Monday morning, a big check came in that now leaves the team short only a few thousand dollars.
