    U of C to build new emergency room

    CHICAGO — University of Chicago medicine is reviving plans to build a new emergency room to prepare for the opening of a trauma center. The university will submit plans for the new facilities as well as other proposed improvements to the medical center. Those improvements include more hospital beds and improvements to cancer and cardiovascular care units.

    Lucas museum construction on hold

    CHICAGO — A lawsuit will go on, against plans to build the George Lucas museum along the lakefront. A federal judge Thursday refused to dismiss the lawsuit. The group “Friends of the pParks” says the museum site is held in the public trust and should be protected and preserved for the state’s residents. The project is on hold for now.

    Rauner to unveil plan to add lanes to Stevenson Expressway

    CHICAGO — Governor Rauner will announce a plan later today to add new lanes on the Stevenson Expressway. The plan would add at least one express lane in each direction on the Stevenson between I-355 and the Dan Ryan. But you would have to pay a toll for the convenience. The governor’s proposal would be a partnership between the state and a private firm. If it’s approved — construction could start next year and be complete by 2019.

    California school district considers condoms for middle schoolers

    CALIFORNIA — A school district in California is considering making condoms available to students as young as sixth grade. The San Francisco school board will vote on a proposal to provide condoms to middle schoolers. The school district says a recent survey revealed five-percent of middle school students say they have had sex. A similar program is in place at the high school level, and officials say it’s working well.

    WHEATON, Ill. –A fake website that promotes violence using the name of the Islamic Center of Wheaton is under investigation. The site copies information from the Center’s program about teaching Muslim youths about Islam, Arabic, and memorizing the Quran.
