    CNN) — A strong earthquake shook central Japan’s Nagano region on Saturday night, injuring several people and collapsing a building in area village, the country’s Kyodo News Agency reported, citing firefighters. Reports of the intensity of the quake, centered in the Nagano area at 10:08 p.m., differed.     The attorney for one of the two girls charged in the so-called “Slender Man” attack in Wisconsin, says  the girl is still living in a fantasy world and is not fit to stand trial.   • NTSB to begin investigation of fatal plane crash near Midway

    National Transportation Safety Board investigators hope to have a preliminary report out within a week or so on the crash of a small cargo plane into a home near Midway Airport.  The pilot of that plane, 47-year-old Eric Quentin Howlett, died in the crash. “The aircraft is going to be relocated and secured overnight, then tomorrow we will begin a detailed examination of the airframe, then the engine then the propellers,” said NTSB air safety investigator Tim Sorensen.     Chicago firefighters battle a raging blaze for hours in the bitter cold temperatures at an historic building in Lincoln Park. The fire erupted at the Mulligan School at Sheffield and Willow around 1 a.m. Tuesday. The flames raced through the upper floors.     Several people were injured in a fire at an residential  hotel on Chicago’s West Side Saturday night. One person jumped from the building’s third floor.     An off-duty Chicago police officer and her 21-year-old daughter were shot Tuesday night at the daughter’s South Side home. Police sources tell the Chicago Tribune that the daughter’s boyfriend was taken into custody several hours later after he fled the scene with the couple’s young child.
