Though thunderstorms have begun to diminish in intensity overall, stronger cells may produce marginally severe wind gusts and hail heading into the overnight hours.

The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of
Northern Illinois
Extreme northwestern Indiana
Lake Michigan

* Effective this Wednesday night and Thursday morning from 1050
PM until 500 AM CDT.

* Primary threats include…
Isolated damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible
Isolated large hail events to 1.5 inches in diameter possible

SUMMARY…Severe potential will persist for a few more hours across
the region before gradually diminishing — mainly in the form of
hail, but with isolated damaging gusts also still possible.

The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 60
statute miles north and south of a line from 40 miles west northwest
of Peoria IL to 15 miles south southeast of Valparaiso IN. For a

REMEMBER…A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are
favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area.
Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening
weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible
warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce
tornadoes.
