Mom pleads for answers, justice 15 years after boy’s murder

STREATOR, Ill. --  Fifteen years after a 7-year-old boy was murdered in Streator, Illinois there are still no charges in his killing.

In 2003, Dalton Mesarchik body was found in the Vermillion River near the Vermillion Boat Club less than 24 hours after he was snatched from his front yard. Dalton was waiting on his porch for a bus to take him to church.  He kept coming into and out of the house and then he was gone.

Dalton was murdered with a Bench Top Pro hammer to his head, an important piece of evidence police found near the scene.

Michelle Mesarchik and her four other children share stories about their brother all the time to keep his memory alive. Easter was his favorite holiday. He loved hard boiled eggs.

Now Michelle says she just needs someone to help put the pieces of this puzzle together.  She will never stop until she gets justice for Dalton.

“It could be something little but it could be huge to the investigation,” she said. It just needs to happen.  It’s been long enough, you know?”

A $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the murderer remains in effect. Anyone with information of Dalton’s murder or the hammer used in the murder or the location where Dalton’s body was found may contact Illinois State Police .
