WGN-TV celebrates anniversary with ‘WGN-TV: 70 Years As Chicago’s Very Own’ airing April 5 at 8PM

CHICAGO -- WGN-TV celebrates 70 years of broadcast excellence with “WGN-TV: 70 Years as Chicago’s Very Own,” a one-hour retrospective hosted by Tom Skilling and other WGN News anchors/reporters, airing on Thursday, April 5th at 8pm CT. Dan Roan talks about WGN-TV’s dynamic and long-running sports history; Micah Materre and the morning team of Paul Konrad, Robin Baumgarten and Larry Potash talk about major events and stories WGN News has covered over the years; Dean Richards highlights WGN-TV’s historic children's programs; and Lourdes Duarte reflects on WGN-TV’s community involvement as Chicago’s Very Own. An encore presentation of the special will be seen Sunday, April 8th at 12pm CT on CLTV.

Monday, April 16th marks the 70th anniversary of the first baseball telecast on WGN. That milestone will be celebrated with 70 years of classic Chicago Cubs memories and moments featured throughout WGN Sports’ live coverage of the Cubs vs. St. Louis Cardinals game and “Leadoff Man” pregame show starting at 5:30p CT. On Tuesday, April 17th, during WGN Sports’ live coverage of the Chicago White Sox @ Oakland Athletics game, memorable moments throughout WGN-TV’s long association with the White Sox will be featured starting at 9pm CT. 2018 marks the 50th season of White Sox baseball televised on WGN since 1948.

WGN News will also feature stories about WGN-TV’s 70th anniversary, including some featuring Tom Skilling, who is celebrating his 40th anniversary with the station. Viewers can also look for special station IDs featuring some surprise celebrities and newsmakers recognizing WGN-TV’s anniversary throughout the month of April.
