CHICAGO -- A Winter Weather Advisory, calling for a wintry mix of freezing rain, snow and sleet, goes into effect from 11 p.m. CDT Friday until 8 a.m. CDT Saturday for the following Chicago area counties in northeast and north-central Illinois and northwest Indiana (shaded in purple on the highlighted map): Ogle, Lee, DeKalb, Kane, LaSalle, Kendall, Grundy, Will and Kankakee Counties in Illinois and Newton and Jasper Counties in Indiana.
Very hazardous driving conditions are likely to develop over the aforementioned counties, as low pressure approaches from the west and passes to the south of our area Friday night and early Saturday, spreading the wintry mix of rain, freezing rain, sleet and wet snow across this area. The freezing rain will accumulate on elevated surfaces such as cars, decks and trees as well as spots on highways and roads, especially those that are untreated and over bridges.
This wintry mix could expand outside the boundaries displayed, so if you anticipate travel this evening and overnight into Saturday morning check on latest advisories and statements to better prepare for your particular time and place of travel.
