Saturday is National Italian Beef Day — where and how to cash in

CHICAGO — Saturday marks the first official National Italian Beef Day. If you love Italian Beef, and love to eat for free, then you might want to be one of the hundreds or thousands expected to line up at the Buona Beef in Harwood Heights by 11 a.m. Saturday. That guarantees a free 7-inch signature Italian beef sandwich.

For social media lovers, take a picture of your Buona Beef using the hashtag #NationalItalianBeefDay and you’ll automatically be entered to win free Italian Beef for a year. Twenty winners will be chosen at random.

In any case if you go, the address is 7343 W. Lawrence Ave. in Harwood Heights. And according to the Buona Beef officials, “For beef lovers who can’t get there before 11:00am, Buaona is discounting their signature 7-inch sandwiches: $4 Italian beefs, $5 combos and $3 Italian sausage all day long. All Buona locations will be giving away ‘valuable’ SWAG”.

Here’s some history on the Italian Beef, facts lifted from Buona Beef.  Italian Beef is roasted beef that is tender, lean, low in fat and if done right, spiced with special seasonings served in its own natural gravy on Italian Bread. And although the month of May is considered for many National Beef Month, it’s still not Italian Beef Day. Maybe one day it will be. And although you might have been led to believe the last two years were already National Italian Beef Day–this is the first time it is officially recognized.
