EAST CHICAGO, Ind. -- A 4-year-old boy in northwest Indiana is dead after sustaining a gunshot wound.

Just after 3 a.m. Thursday, police arrived at a home on Guthrie Street to find Garrion Glover with a gunshot wound to the neck.

Police say the boy's mother told them she was sleeping when she heard a noise around midnight Wednesday then found Garrion on the ground bleeding.

He was pronounced dead at St. Catherine Hospital.

Family members say the child was playing with a gun,  but police have not confirmed how the boy died.

The Lake County Coroner has listed the cause of death as pending.
