Police officer in Markham opens fire during traffic stop

MARKHAM, Ill. -- A police officer in Markham opened fire when a vehicle dragged him during a traffic stop early Friday morning.

The officer pulled over a driver for an alleged traffic violation, and asked him to get out from his vehicle at 167th and Western.

But, the driver is accused of trying to pull away, dragging that officer alongside his car.

The officer shot and critically wounded the driver. The officer was treated for minor injuries.

There were two other officers assisting at the scene.

WGN has also learned that there were two women in the suspect's car.

A state police task force is investigating.
