CHICAGO --Illinois State Police say alcohol was a factor in the cause of a crash that killed three people on the Eisenhower expressway Tuesday.
It happened around 2:15 a.m. in the outbound lanes of the expressway near Western Ave.
Police say the driver of a black Buick Lacrosse lost control of the car and struck a utility pole during heavy rain.
Two passengers died at the scene and another was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital.
The driver is serious condition at Stroger Hospital.
All of the outbound lanes were closed for more than six hours before reopening around 8:30 a.m.
