CHICAGO -- The effort to bring back a trauma center to the South Side took another step forward Thursday.

The University of Chicago Medical Center introduced its new trauma director, Dr. Selwyn Rogers Jr., a trauma surgeon.

The trauma center is scheduled to re-open in spring 2018.

The move is in response to community pressure for a level-one trauma center to treat victims in nearby neighborhoods hit hard with gun violence.
