A Chicago blues legend and piano great has died. Chuck Goering, better known as Barrelhouse Chuck passed away after a four year battle with prostate cancer.

WGN featured Barrelhouse Chuck last month when his friends started a GoFundMe page to help raise money for his mounting medical bills as he was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame. He played with some of the blues best over the decades, from Muddy Waters and Sunnyland Slim to Steve Winwood and Eric Clapton.

The man, who friends say, had a heart as “big as Alaska,” wanted to be remembered as a guy who pursued his passion for music and simply loved playing the piano.

Friends are holding a memorial concert for him on Monday, January 9th at Space in Evanston.
