CHICAGO -- A CPD squad car responding to a crash became part of it instead Sunday as slippery road conditions sent cars sliding, and seven people to area hospitals.
Police were responding to a two-car accident involving a vehicle that lost control in the snow, crossed the center line, and collided with a truck on the 39th street overpass in Bridgeport around 3 p.m. Sunday. When officers in a marked squad car arrived on the scene, they swerved to avoid a pedestrian on the road and also lost control, police said. The squad car sideswiped one of the cars involved in the original accident, and hit two additional vehicles.
Two officers and two other people were transported to area hospitals with non life threatening injuries, according to police. The Chicago Fire Department said seven people were transported to area hospitals, while several others refused treatment.
