Boxer Ed Brown dies from gunshot wound to the head
CHICAGO — Up-and-coming boxer Ed “Bad Boy” Brown passed away Sunday after he was shot in the head early Saturday morning, according to his manager Michael Cericola.
The 24-year-old boxer and his 19-year-old cousin were shot in East Garfield Park while returning from a midnight workout early Saturday. Police say a sliver car pulled up beside them and opened fire, hitting Brown in the head and his cousin in the leg. Brown was taken to Mount Sinai in critical condition, but died around 4 p.m. Sunday, Cericola said.
The young boxer was no stranger to hardship, Cericola said previously, including the loss of his mother in 2003. She was killed in the e2 nightclub stampede. But Brown still found his way into the ring, his promising career even gaining the praise of Olympian and former champion boxer David Diaz.
Police have made no arrests and have no description of the suspects. The incident will now be investigated as a fatal shooting.
