Thanksgiving travel rush begins

CHICAGO -- It's getaway day for Thanksgiving travelers.

It’s the busiest travel day of the year on America’s highways, and one of the busiest at Chicago’s airports.

United and American Airlines have set up special high-tech “innovation lanes” to allow travelers to get through the security lines faster.

Nine million people will drive the Illinois tollways between now and Monday morning, which is about 10 percent more than normal.

A little tip -- if you're taking your trip in a rented car, the Tollway Authority web site at illinoistollway.com will let you add the license plate to your account, so you'll still get half-price tolls.

Illinois State Police will conduct random roadside checks to ensure that drivers and passengers use their seat belts.

Wondering how long you’ll have to wait for a cab to the airport? Chicago now has a new texting option. Simply text the word "TAXI" to 312-883-8404 and you’ll get an instant estimate of your waiting time.
