CHICAGO -- Say hello to Siku. He is Lincoln Park Zoo’s new polar bear and he made his public debut today.
And he certainly seems at home in his new digs, the Walter Family Arctic Tundra also opened to the public today. The $16-million dollar exhibit is on the footprint of the old polar bear enclosure. The larger, new and improved version features more landscape with bushes and grasslands, two pools, a stream even an ice cave reminiscent of his natural habitat.
Research on polar bears helped design the space and will watch Siku here. They hope to gain a better understanding of how they live and how to save them.
