CHICAGO -- Two people were taken to the hospital and rush hour traffic was backed up for hours after a shooting on the Eisenhower Expressway this afternoon.  It was the 45th shooting on a Chicago-area expressway this year.

The shooting happened around 3:30 p.m. near Racine.

Traffic was snarled as the expressway was shut down for the investigation.

The driver of a black Infiniti SUV, identified only as a man in his 20s, was shot in the abdomen.  The vehicle he was driving crashed into the median wall near the L tracks.

State police say a front-seat passenger suffered a broken leg when the car came to this sudden stop.

The suspects fled into traffic and are still at large.

Police are looking for the public’s help and for witnesses who may have been in traffic on the expressway when the shooting occurred.

They’re reminding witnesses they can pass information along confidentially.  Anyone with any information is asked to call 847-294-4400
