Driver cited after boy, 2, killed by vehicle in Jefferson Park

CHICAGO -- Several traffic citations have been filed against a driver whose van struck and killed a 2-year-old boy and injured a woman in the Jefferson Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side.

Police say Alexander Vasquez, 48, was cited with failure to stop at a stop sign, failure to reduce speed, and failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

The vehicle was turning onto Central Avenue from Giddings Street just after 4:10 p.m. Sunday, when it hit them.

The child died on the scene. He's been identified as Noah Katz.

The child's 39-year-old mother was rushed to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. Her injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.
