The Wrigley Field marquee proclaims the Cubs' victory in Game 5 of the World Series on October 30th.

CHICAGO – Finally, it flew in the Fall Classic.

It took a little bit longer than some people might have wanted. In fact, the Cubs waited about as late as you possibly could to make it happen.

After dropping Game 3 and Game 4 at Wrigley Field in the World Series to the Indians, Joe Maddon’s team rallied back Sunday night to grab a lead and managed to hold on.

A number of harrowing moments happened in the final few innings, but when Aroldis Chapman struck out Jose Ramirez, the Cubs finally had a victory in the Fall Classic at Wrigley Field.

It was the first since Game 6 of the 1945 World Series when the Cubs beat the Tigers 8-7 in 12 innings. It was the first time the Cubs held a lead in the 9th inning of a World Series game at Wrigley Field since the last time they staved off elimination in a Game 5 – 1935.

Like Game 3 at Wrigley Field, I went around the ballpark to capture the sights and sound of what was the final game of the season at the Friendly Confines. Below is a photo and video essay of the historic night in Wrigleyville.
