Man charged after break-in, fire at NW Side church

CHICAGO — Chicago police have charged a man accused of breaking in, and setting fire to a church on the city’s Northwest Side.

Raymond Luna, 28, faces two felony counts of arson for the fire at Saint Genevieve Church located on the 4800 block of W. Altgeld.

Police were responding to a burglary call around 12:15 a.m. Monday when they saw Luna exiting St. Genevieve through a rear window, and noticed smoke emanating from the building.

The Chicago Fire Department arrived to the scene and quickly put out the fire, with no major damage.

Luna was placed into custody.

The arson unit is investigating.
