CHICAGO -- The first stop for many Cubs fans this Sunday was the store.
Raise the Flag NL Champions shirts and locker room hats were the must-haves among the crowd of fans that were ready to shop when Dick's on Clybourn opened extra early: 7:00 a.m.
"It's a long time coming. I'm a long time Cub fan, and this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Not every day you get to wear one of these," Junior Cazares said.
Junior Cazares' wife Esmeralda, a South Sider, had to get something, too.
"Even though I'm a Sox fan, I'm not a hater. I'm rooting for the Cubs to win," she said.
Most shoppers said they were looking for the same shirts they saw the players wearing on TV. And as this historic post-season stretches to the last seven-game series, Cubs gear will be shipped across the country and even around the world.
"Given the climate of everything that is happening in the world today, a little piece of happiness to share with all of our fans across the world is really great,” fan Kelly Faso said. “The 'W' has been flying in Tel Aviv, in Italy and in Paris. It's unbelievable."
Faso and her husband, Steven, were shopping for his dad. He’s 81 years old, and used to sweep Wrigley's bleachers.
"Hopefully, he's going to get in the car with us Tuesday and head to Cleveland," Steven said.
Fans say to the doubtful: have faith. This is the team that tramples over any myth, curse, or more than a century of bad luck.
"The baseball gods are with the Cubs all season, but this is our year. Sorry, Cleveland. You have the NBA Championship, but we are taking the MLB Championship, " Alberto Acevas said.
