CHICAGO -- Wrigleyville is getting ready for what residents' hope will be a big party tonight if the Cubs clinch -- but the day didn't start out so celebratory in the Lake View neighborhood. Two men were shot while standing outside of a fast food restaurant, just blocks from Wrigley Field.
Witness say the two men were standing near their vehicle at Kenmore and Belmont around 3 a.m. Saturday when shots rang out.
One of the victims, and the suspected gunman, ran toward Sheffield, where patrons and partygoers had gathered after some late-night bars had just closed.
A 23-year-old man was shot multiple times and a 36-year-old man was shot in the neck. Both men were transported in critical condition to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.
While police continue to search for suspects and consider the shooting to be gang-related, reaction from residents is mixed.
Some say they don't feel unsafe, while others say they feel crime creeping in every neighborhood in the city and they'll try to be extra vigilant during the Cubs games, and after, in light of this most recent shooting.
