Police search for shooting suspect in Alsip; Dist. 126 classes cancelled today

ALSIP, Ill. -- A police chase that started in Chicago ended up with officers coming under fire in Alsip.

The incident started around 2:40 a.m. Thursday at 118th and Lowe in Chicago, when officers heard gun shots from at least two different guns.

Police responded on foot and saw a person firing shots at a group of people from a vehicle. They identified themselves as police when people in the vehicle began to fire at them.

One officer took out his gun and fired back. Police say no one was hit.

Police then chased the suspects in their vehicle west, and three men abandoned their vehicle in Alsip at 119th and Kostner, next to Prairie Junior High School.

Three people fled, two of them were arrested. Police are actively searching for the third suspect.

Police found weapons and ammunition in the car.

School today for all Alsip School District 126 schools are cancelled today due to the search for the third shooting suspect, according to the district's website. Classes are scheduled to resume tomorrow, October 21.

  • Lane Elementary School
  • Prairie Junior High
  • Stony Creek Elementary School
