CHICAGO — The National Storm Prediction Center has included the portion of the Chicago area approximately along and east of Interstate-55 this afternoon in a Marginal Risk band of potentially severe storms that could produce some damaging winds.
The risk area is depicted by the dark-green area on the headlined map above.
A Marginal Risk calls for a 5% chance of severe storms within 25 miles of a given location.
A strong cold front is forecast to move east through our area today, reaching Chicago about midday and then moving on east across Lake Michigan and into Indiana.
Showers and a few thunderstorms will probably develop along and ahead of the front as it approaches our area this morning, and then with the additional heating, stronger storms with possible damaging winds could develop this afternoon along and east of Interstate-55 into northwest Indiana.
